11 Natural and Effective ways to Cure Acne

Acne is a broad term covering pimples, blackheads, blemishes and whiteheads. Even though acne is a well known problem amongst teenagers, it can strike at any age. According to the emeritus professor of Dermatology Albert. M. Kligman, genes are the important factor that causes acne. He explained that, there are about 2 thousand oil glands per square inch in the central part of our skin. The oil flows through tiny ducts from the glands to the skin surface. But, sometimes, these oil ducts become filled with bacteria, sebum and dead skin cells which causes Acne.

Some of the major Causes of Acne are:

  • Stress :  Scientific studies say that Stress can cause Acne in two ways. First is by stimulating adrenal glands to produce large number of hormones and secondly, by making the healing process a bit slower.
  • Hormones: For some female patients, during Pregnancy, changes during menstrual cycle, and birth control pills can cause Acne due to the excessive production of hormones.
  • Occupational Exposure:  Occupational Acne is caused due to the exposure of skin to chemicals, excessive heat, and by exposure of skin to irritant substances found in the workspace.
  • Cosmetics:  Most of the Cosmetics available in the market can cause Acne because of chemicals present in them. Heavy and Oily makeup can block pores and can cause acne.
  • Certain Medications :  Certain Medications, chemicals and drugs like Dilantin (which is used to cure epilepsy) can also cause Acne.

Here are some of the Top and Easy ways to Cure Your Acne:

  1. Do not press, prick the spots (pimples and zits). Popping those will make the pimples look worse due to inflammation and irritation.
  2. Handle them with care. Too aggressive in cleanliness can cause acne and dry skin.
  3. If you have any make-up, remove it. Wearing makeup can clog pores and make them look dirty causing pimples.
  4. Use a mild soap for sensitive skin like Dove Unscented, Tone, Neutrogena or Basis to wash your  face with warm water. Harsh antibacterial soap may irritate your skin and make the situation worse. If you have oily skin, use a soap that contains benzoyl peroxide.
  5. Don’t Stress much.. Get a good sleep. As said earlier, Stress is one of the major problems that can increase the skin’s oiliness which can clog pores and cause pimples.
  6. Try to use Cosmetic paper products that can be pressed onto the skin to relieve the oiliness.
  7. Eating foods like chocolates, nuts and greesy foods cannot cause pimples, so go easy with your diet.
  8. Apply some Sudocrem (an antiseptic healing and barrier cream) to your spots. This helps them.
  9. Using Salt water : This is one of the natural ways to treate Acne.  Mix sea salt with warm water and soak a cotton ball in it. Press on top of the acne for 10 minutes and dab a bit of honey on the area to kill the bacteria.
  10. Try to change your pillow cases atleast every couple of days. That keeps the harmful germs and bacteria away.
  11. Wash your hands clean before touching the affected areas.
