Bajaj Scooters to Go Away From the Market
Bajaj Scooters at one point of time was a status symbol. Now these scootes are on the verge of a shutdown as Bajaj Auto is all set to stop scooter manufacture, that was a huge craze before liberalization.At one pointof time Bajaj Scooters hasd a long waiting list, were given as gifts at marriages and had a ‘wow’ appeal to it. ‘Hamara Bajaj’ the two-word slogan was Bajaj’s longest running advertising campaign.
Now Bajaj is focussing on its bikes and with full attention given to the motorcycle segment, it hopes to zoom past Hero Honda Motors as the largest motorcycle maker ni the world. Bajaj’s dismal performance in the scooter department for this fiscal has been cited as one of the biggest reasons for the company to terminate the scooter manufcture. The company, which dominated the scooter market with geared brands like Chetak and Super, suffered in the 1990s with the coming of motorcycles in the market that were not only more stylish and appealing but they also offered greater mileage. It is believed that the scooter volumes were just 200 odd per month in recent times.
