Beauty do’s and don’ts for pregnant woman

But it can be very hard to keep track all the changes that are occurring within the body, mind, spirit and routine of the mother. What she does during her pregnancy can make her skin look healthy during and after pregnancy, and the self-confidence or doubt of a woman is always reflected in the child she carries. Following are some beauty dos and don’ts which a pregnant woman should heed during pregnancy.

  1. Do avoid those products that are known to penetrate the skin and are not tested for use on pregnant women as they can causes rashes and these chemicals might affect the baby too.
  2. Do use Sun blocks as sun exposure and pregnancy hormones can lead to brown patchy skin on cheeks and forehead.
  3. Do use skin-soothing oils and creams to treat dry skin and avoid uncomfortable itching.
  4. Do cleanse with a mild cleanser and use light moisturizer at night.
  5. Do inform you doctor that you are pregnant and discuss treatments with him/her if you have any skin condition (acne, rosacea or eczema).
  6. Do try to stay away from toxic chemicals, like pesticides and some cleaning agents.
  7. Do get enough sleep and rest and try to reduce anxiety.
  8. Don’t smoke, drink alcohol or take any harmful street drugs. Limit your caffeine consumption to 1 or maximum 2 cups a day.
  9. Don’t dye your hair or use hair removing creams during allergy. If the dye gets absorbed in the scalp then these chemicals might enter the blood stream and harm the foetus. Hair removal creams may mix with your hormones and may result in allergy or rashes.
  10. Don’t use products that include vitamin-A and its derivatives as they are shown to cause birth defects.
  11. Don’t use creams that contain alpha-hydroxy acids.

While your body is going through enormous changes, a little care can go a long way in staying healthy and also keeping your baby safe. Follow these dos and don’ts and welcome a beautiful baby in this world.
