Healthy Diet Menu for Hypertension

Hypertension could be a very frustrating disease and the complications it could bring can be very troublesome and fatal. As Hypertension has no permanent cure, one only ends up taking lifelong medications. Changing your lifestyle and introducing a healthy diet can help you immensely in managing Hypertension and living an active and happy life. Below are various dietary approaches to control Hypertension.

  • Limiting the intake of sodium and salts: Eating lots of sodium and salts raises the blood pressure significantly. High salty diets also harm the kidneys, heart and the brain leading to fatal illnesses. Consumption of as much as1 gram of sodium or salts a day is found out to give excellent results in controlling Hypertension and many other diseases.
  • Taking a high fiber and healthy food: Food high in fiber and rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium and electrolytes help in preventing hypertension to a large extent. Consume fruits like bananas, prunes, oranges; and vegetables like spinach, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, broccoli, beans for a healthy diet.
  • Avoid fats: One must cut down consumption of oils and saturated fats to a great extent. Try using mono saturated oils like olive oil and canola oil.
  • Take lots of fluids: Drinking lots of fresh fruit juices and water found out to be controlling blood pressure considerably. Water is a natural cleanser and it washes away bad salts and fats from your body thus controlling hypertension.
  • Protein rich diet: Taking a protein rich diet is very useful in preventing hypertension. Protein is mainly found in poultry, soya beans, milk and fish.
  • Avoid drinking and smoking: Smoking is very harmful for hypertension patients, it is very beneficial if you completely avoid smoking. Too much of alcohol is also very dangerous. Cutting down on alcohol is very important.
  • Eating less sugar: You must cut down on sugar intake. Excess of sugar stresses the brain and causes high blood pressure.
  • Eating white meat: You must minimize consuming red meat and substitute it with white meat like fish and poultry.

Along with such healthy diet you must also follow a regular exercise regime to fight hypertension.
