How do I paint my car? This is a nagging question that goes through your mind as you see your car looking old needing a fresh coat of paint. So how to paint a car? Well here are some car painting tips:
Buy or rent a spray gun. If you are getting it rented, inform the company that you want a spray gun for painting your car and they will give you the right kind. Before painting, you have to clean and wipe the surface of your car. Use a carwash to make sure that you car is spotlessly clean.
Cover the windows, tires and chrome with paper and masking tape to stop the paint from reaching these places. Apply the base coat of primer, because this helps the subsequent layers of coating stick to the car well. Start applying the color coating. Do it 2 or 3 times till the painting is evenly done your car. Allow the final coat do dry for half an hour. Then with the help of fine grit sandpaper, sand the car lightly.
It is recommended to practice using the spray before painting the car. If you spray too closely, the paint can flow haphazardly. If you spray from far off, then the paint will dry before it actually hits the surface of the car. When you are applying the coat, make sure each coat dries before applying the subsequent one. It is not recommended to use house paint because it looks inferior on the car. One more thing: do not paint the car in area of open flame because paint is inflammable.
