How to Avoid Leg Cramps

Let us find out how we can avoid leg cramps. Runners and brisk walkers all over the world have experienced this at one time or the other. Cramps canbe caused due to a variety of factors ranging from too much exercise and exertion to dehydration and even poor eating habits. Cramps can also be related to other things, like incorrect breathing patterns or some other illness. As a runner, it is important to warm up before you go in for the long haul. Make sure you do some basic stretching exercises before every run.
One’s diet can also help in avoiding running cramps. Make sure you drink adequate amounts of water. This is especially important if you go for an early morning jog or run as the body gets dehydrated through the night and the fluids need to be replenished in the body If you go for a long run, carry some water with you and keep sipping in between. Drink even if you’re not feeling thirsty Avoid snacking on junk foods before your run, instead eats bananas, which are a good source of potassium.
While running it’s essential to breathe fully and deeply to allow enough oxygen into your system. Take full breaths, which means you need to completely inhale and exhale each time.
Cramps tend to go away on their own but if they don’t, change your routine a bit. Slow down your pace if you are running too fast or stop and massage the muscle that is cramping. Try to get the calf cramps out of your body by stretching it out Keep your foot down and pull your toes up and try to reach them with your hands. This will help stretch your calf muscles and ease the pain.
