How to get rid of ear wax

Ear wax can be annoying as it not only fills the ears but it can also itch and irritate the inner ears and even inhibit hearing. However, trying to remove ear wax with the help of cotton swab or any other objects can be dangerous and useless as swabs or finger only pushes the wax in deeper and these objects can hurt your ear drums. Luckily, removing ear wax with hydrogen peroxide is an easy and quick solution to your ear wax problem. Following simple steps can help you to remove ear wax.

  1. Fill an ear dropper with pure hydrogen peroxide and then lay on your side. Then carefully fill your ear canal with the liquid. The peroxide will eat away the wax and you will feel a tingling sensation. Please note that peroxide should not have strength greater than 3% as it can damage the ear drum.
  2. Allow the peroxide to rest in for 1 to 2 minutes and then place a cloth over your ear. Repeat the procedure with the other ear. Use hydrogen peroxide one or two times every month to avoid excessive ear wax build up. If there is excessive build up due to excessive use of any object or trying to clear wax by finger then a few more steps can be added to above treatment.
  3. Go in the shower and hold your ear up to the water from the shower head. The water temperature should be close to body temperature. Keep running the water until the wax plug is washed out.

Please do not try this if there is any opening in the ear drum (ruptured or tubes). Also, do not use hot water as it can damage the ear drum. If all the wax is still not removed then some of the water will be trapped in the wax. The pathogens present in the water (not harmful in drinking water) carry the risk of ear problems. The risk of ear infection can be minimized by use of evaporating agent such as spirit or commercial ear drops such as Aquaear.
