Indian Hockey Team does a Chak De, Wins the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup After 13 Years.

The Indian Hockey Team registered a historic win after winning the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2009 on the 12th April. After 13 years, Indians were able to clinch the cup. The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup was held at Ipoh, Malaysia city. Dhanraj Pillay, the manager of the Indian Hockey Team was a part of the 1991 Azlan Shah Cup winning team. Till now India has won four Sultan Azlan Shah Cup respectively in 1985, 1991 and 1995.
Pillay was thrilled even more because he was happy with 2009 Indian Hockey Team as he was one of the squad selectors. This win was also the first abroad since 2003. Incidently, India’s last abroad win came through Asia Cup held in Malaysia.
Pillay is very attached to Malaysia and is his second choice after India. Coach Harendra Singh was happy too but he wants his team to not to get carried away by this win and concentrate on future tournaments. Harendra aims to see the team on seventh or eighth in the world ranking by the end of June 2009.
Both Harendra and Pillay praised V Sunil for his performance. V Sunil performed in spite of the tension of losing his father just before the start of the tournament. Sandeep Singh was awarded the player of the tournament. Sandeep was also the top goal scorer, hitting 6 goals out of 12 which India hit during the tournament. Arjun Harappa was declared player of the final
