Kurkure, one of the most popular brands in snack food, was hounded with baseless rumors like ‘Kurkure contains plastic’. In today’s competitive world, it is but natural for rivals to pull down a success story with scant regard for ethics. However, this move to spread rumors in the form of SMSes and chain mails that Kurkure has plastic or ‘Kurure burns’ is really going below the belt.
To set the record right, Kurkure is a modern snack launched in 2001 by FritoLay, the snack food division of PepsiCo India. The ingredients present in Kurkure are mostly the ones we use in home: rice meal, corn meal, gram meal, edible oil, salt, spices, condiments and flavors (according to various Kurkure variants). The edible oil that is used for preparing Kurkure is the Rice Bran Oil, one of the healthier oils naturally high in good fats (MUFA and PUFA) and low in saturated fats (reduced by up to 40 percent).
In other words, these are ingredients that have high nutritional values, and make Kurkure a tastier as well as a healthier snack option. To say that there is plastic in Kurkure is false and baseless, because the processes that take place into making this snack are untouched by human hands. You can check the video about Kurkure being absolutely safe and without plastic here.
Kurkure does burn, but so does any carbohydrate based food product made at home. Any fried product with about 30 percent oil content or more behaves in the same manner. So, there is nothing much to raise a hue and cry about. Also it is common sense; why will leading brands like Pepsi and Kurkure which has years of goodwill and trust attached to it, succumb to ulterior motives? The reason Kurkure is so successful is because of the fact that there is a huge amount of trust reposed in the brand.
Kurkure is a safe snack and people who say that Kurkure is dangerous to health and that Kurkure contains plastic are only kidding. Kurkure is not dangerous to health as it is made with edible ingredients that we use in our daily kitchen. How can an edible snack contain plastic. How can a company like PepsiCo play with the lives of its customers. People don’t understand such thing and just start spreading these rumors. The plastic in Kurkure ought to be just a rumor and nothing else.
I have eaten Kurkure many times and I dont think Kurkure has plastic or such things. It is due to presence of corn starch and bran oil, you get that feeling that it is plastic. But Kurkure does not contain plastic.
