Mumbai 26/11: He gave Terrorists Water, They Shot Him

It is one year past 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack, and still there seems to be no clear cut verdict on Ajmal Kasab. As we continue to abide by the lagging justice system of India, let us remember few of the many instances of lost lives that weren’t meant to be:
1. 27 year old Bharat Navadia reached CST station (VT) in Mumbai with his wife Poonam and two young children, two and a half year old daughter Anjali and one year son Viraat. They were supposed to attend a wedding at Kolkata. Bharat, a door to door salesman beamed with pride over the fact that he was finally able to afford to take the family to a trip out of town. His meager income hardly afforded him such luxuries. The family had saved enough money for the trip.
Bharat went to the reservation counter to check the status. As he walked towards the electronic display board, he heard a deafening sound. Bharat felt something hit his shoulder and before he blackened out, he heard his wife’s piercing scream.
300 people in the railway station hall ran helter-skelter, there was absolute panic as Kasab’s AK 47 went on a firing spree, knocking everyone down to death. Bharat and his family were also taken to a nearby JJ hospital, as were many others who were seriously injured and dead. Poonam was declared ‘dead on arrival’, a bullet had gone right through her head, killing her instantly. Bharat had a serious injury on his right shoulder. He already had a shoulder fracture on his left hand from a previous injury, and now the right hand was also incapacitated. His right shoulder that helped him sell clothes door to door was not functioning anymore.
Bharat’s son misses his mom desperately while the little daughter thinks that her mother had gone to Kolkata leaving the rest of the family.
2. A young man stared at the lifeless of his body, unable to believe that she was at her bubbly self, two seconds ago. A mother ran frantically across the station to look for her child, not caring for her life. The child was dead, one of the victims from Kasab’s and Ismail’s bullets. Three women who were found dead, didn’t die out of any bullet or injury, they died out of shock.

3. After Abu Ismail and Ajmal Kasab came out of the CST station and walked towards the rear entrance of the Cama and Albless hospital for Women and Children, they spotted a man, Thakur Wagela, sitting outside a shanty near the Laxmi Refreshment Center, just outside the hospital. Thakur was eating dinner outside while his six year old son played some meters away. Ismail and Kasab asked him for water; Thakur readily gave them a pitcher to drink. After gulping, Ismail found it convenient to shoot the man Before he could react, the bullet passed through Thakur’s chest, killing him instantly, as his little son looked on. Then the duo went into the hospital to kill more and create mayhem.
Such examples of shocking, despicable and mass killing were also seen in Mumbai’s Trident Hotel, Oberoi , The Taj and Nariman House. The above acts of absolute gore and disregard to human life are one end of spectrum and Kasab’s long awaiting trial is perhaps the other end. When will India give justice and when will India get Justice?
