If you thought that Facebook had relegated Orkut to obscurity, think again.  Orkut has decided to revamp totally and come with a new look.  Only a few people can access the new Orkut. As you read on, you will come to know how you can make it to the enviable circle who can see the new Orkut.

Orkut that was launched in 2004, made a lot of people addicted to it, until Facebook took over with its applications and cute, zingy look.  Orkut now plans to make a come-back in the social networking world in a big manner, and parent Google is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that Orkut emerges victor.

The new Orkut’s marketing strategy has an ‘invite only’ system to begin with. On the website, instead of a list of recent visitors, you will see thumbnails for a quick look.  The new interface is simple and clean. The home page color pattern is changed with fresh set of hues.  Also like Facebook, Orkut will have a feature, where visitors will be able  to post a comment on status updates of a user and suggest new friends.

Orkut becomes a one-stop destination:  Now on the new Orkut, you will be able to to watch videos, browse and search within your friends and community lists without leaving your page and going to the other one.  The product manager of Google India, Rahul Kulkarni, says ” The user wants everything  in one place, and thus we planned to integrate GTalk,  YouTube, video testimonials, video scraps and other features that were not available on Orkut”

Kulkarni has more good news, “At the backend will be an intelligent algorithm at work, which ranks your friends according to the engagement with them, and shows their profile above others accordingly.”

In case, you are not happy with the new Orkut, you can go back to the old Orkut, till the new one gets better since it is still in the developing stages.

How do you get to the New Orkut:

1. Be a part of the official community www.orkut.co.in/neworkut  for information and insights into the new version of Orkut and participate in one of the many activities present there.

2. Look for a person who is using the new version of Orkut and ask for an invite. To know who has already got access to the new Orkut, click on the icon ‘O’ that appears on your friend’s profile page, next to their names.
