Paa Movie Review: Paa is a Must Watch Film
Posted by Starwin on 4th December, 2009

That Amitabh Bachchan is a brilliant actor is a fact. But you need directors like R.Balki to make the superstar push the envelope further and show that he is a rare gem in Bollywood. He has managed to make Big B descend to the levels of the little Auro and get a standing applause for his towering performance. Talking about Amitabh Bachchan’s performance in Paa will be an important part of anyone who does Paa Movie Review
Story of Paa: Auro’s parents are separated since his birth. Vidya Balan, in a reprise to the role, she played in Heyy Babyy, bring the child single-handed because the baby’s biological father Amol (Abhishek Bachchan) wanted the son to be aborted. Years later, Amol meets his son Auro at the school’s annual function, where he rewards him for artistic excellence.
Auro, as we all know by now, is infected by a rare genetic disease called Progeria, where a child attains old age five times faster than a normal person. At 13, Auro begins to look and behave like a 65 year old page, but he is mentally as young as his real age.
Technical aspects of Paa: Paa is not an educational film on Progeria and does not take a serious look at the disease as Taare Zameen Par did. However, this disorder is used as a backdrop to tell a convincing, humorous and moving story. Balki succeeds immensely as a writer and director. His frothy, light-hearted approach is so beautifully showcased, just like he did for his previous outing Cheeni Kum. Instead of a melodramatic, tear-jerker, you have a splendid story that is witty and touching. He has absolute finesse as a writer, as you can make out in the cool one-liners about civic sense, politics, media etc and there is no attempt to be preachy or dramatic about any of them. Prosthetic makeup of Paa by Christien Tinsley(The Passion of Christ fame)and Dominie Till is absolutely top class. Editing of Paa is brilliant and Anil Naidu is deft at his art. Illay Raja’s music is soothing and therapeutic. PC.Sreedharan cinematography is brilliant as he elevates some of the scenes with splendid photography.
Best scenes of Paa: One of the best scenes and undoubtedly, the one that can bring a lump in your throat is the climax of Paa.
Best Performance in Paa: Like we said, Amitabh Bachchan is sure to get an award for his unparalled performance in Paa. This is really an introduction of Amitabh Bachchan in an area, he hasn’t tread before. With a new face, different body language and a unique voice, Big B’s performance in Paa will stand out as one of his top 3 best performances. Abhishek Bachchan gives a superbly understated performance. Vidya Balan is poised and share a commendable maternal chemistry with young Auro a.k.a Amitabh Bachchan. Arundhati Nag as the grandmother is laudable and so is Pratik Katare, Auro’s classmate who gets some of the clever lines of the movie Paresh Rawal, in a special appearance is much better here than his over-the-top acts in some of his films.
Concluding lines on Paa: Paa is a must watch. Please take your family along.
