Prolia, the latest Osteoporosis Medicine

Prolia (medically known as Denosumab) has been given the permission by the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to treat post menopausal women who suffer from osteoporosis and are at high risk for bone fracture. Prolia is administered just about once every six months to enhance bone strength and mass, and to prevent bone damage, the FDA said in a news release.
The drug was clinically evaluated being tested in more than 7,800 women aged 60 to 91. About 80 percent of people who suffer from osteoporosis are females, and about half of women aged 50 or older will suffer from an osteoporosis-related fracture at some point in their lives, U.S. government statistics indicate. Prolia is manufactured by Amgen Inc., based in Thousand Oaks, California
Prolia side effects: Prolia side effects include back pain, extremity pain, cholesterol buildup and infection of the bladder. Severe reactions may comprise low blood calcium and skin and osteonecrosis of the jaw, a severe bone disease. Prolia will be distributed with a medication guide that explains these and other risks to patients, the FDA said.
