We saw one of the best dramatic finishes in Twenty20 series cricket in the IPL 2009 match today between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders in a dramatic finish in a super over.
Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals scored 150-6, with top scorer Yusuf Pathan scoring 42 runs. Kolkata Knight Riders had to chase the target but eventually the match was tied, despite Ganguly’s blazing knock of 46 runs out of 30 balls. The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royal which was heading down the wire, ended up as a draw. But then according to the format, the ‘super over’ was decided to see which batting side scores the most in one hour.
Kolkata Knight Riders made 16 runs in one over and the target was to break this score. In came, Rajasthan Royals’ Yusuf Pathan and smacked some huge hits from the meat of the beat, hitting a six, a two, and then another six. The last shot went to the boundary as well and Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders.
Since it was an equal opportunity match for both the teams, Kolkata Knight Riders move to use a spinner in the super over, probably sealed its failure. So much for multi-captain theory!
