Should IPL be banned?

Opposition leaders have called for the ban of IPL saying that it is a money-making racket. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav want the government to ban the Indian Premier League and investigate how the IPL was used to bring in black and unaccounted money.Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Lalu said that the IPL was not cricket but a “gambling and betting” business.
Reacting to the resignation of Shashi Tharoor, minister of state for external affairs, over the IPL row, he said: “Why target Tharoor only? The main culprit is this IPL. This is a gambling and betting business. There are bigwigs involved. The entire network should be probed.Lalu Prasad said that the “murky IPL business of shame and glamour” should be stopped forthwith.
There are views that say that instead of promoting IPL they should promote sports like hockey which is the national sport of India. What do you think, please write in with your comments.
