Vedam Movie Review: Vedam Benchmark in Telugu Movies
Vedam, directed by Radhakrishna (Krish) has been one film that didn’t talk much about what kind of film it is, save for the sexy Anushka Shetty pictures as a prostitute that were used in its marketing stills. Still one knew that it is a story about five people who had their own take on life. Now that the movie has released, one must say Vedam breaks away from stereotypes and is quite an unconventional film according to Tollywood standards.
Vedam has five characters who destiny finds each of them intertwined in the climax. There is a cable guy called Ananda Raju(Allu Arjun), a budding rockstar called Vivek Chakravarthy(Manoj Manchu), Rahimuddin Qureshi(Manoj Bajpai), a person from a Muslim community who invites a lot of ire due to his religious background, Ramulu (Nagayya), a poor weaver who is forced to leave his village and come to the city with his daughter-in-law Padma (Saranya) and Saroja (Anushka Shetty) a headstrong prostitute.
The first hour looks disjointed and the movie establishes characters in the first half. The second half is where things begins to interconnect. You will find that you are visually treating yourself to a slice of life which is beautiful and painful at the same time. Vedam is a film that explores human relationships and succeeds in making a strong point. The writing and the technical angles are top-notch.
The music by MM Keeravani is in complete sync with the mood of the film. Check out the fusion in songs like Ek Chikati Cherani and Malli Puttani, the lyrics too manage to create their own individuality. Visually, the movie is good. We have seen prostitutes in movies in dresses that are gaudy but Anushka Shetty looks fetching and beautiful in the colorful dresses. That also speaks volumes about the camera work at the background. The editing by Shravan is slick too.
The performances are brilliant. Anushka Shetty looks sensuous without being vulgar, not an easy job to do. Manoj Bajpai does a good job, he seems to be reopening his innings considering his performance in Raajneeti have been applauded, Nagayya who makes his debut at an old age is natural, Saranya, lekha Washingont, Siya Gautham and Deeksha Seth too perform very well.
Listening to M M Keeravani’s music which is in sync with the picturisation makes you realise how versatile the music composer is. The fusion (particularly in the songs which he has sung Malli Puttani and Ee chikati cherani) is mellifluous and touches the heart. Here, meaningful lyrics tug at the heartstrings. The background score too enhances the mood.
.Watch Vedam for its exceptional treatment and an enriched visual experience.
