Whitney Houston – Death Cause, Songs, Awards



One of the most prolific singers of our times, Whitney Houston died  on February 11, 2012 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Beverly Hills, California.  She was announced dead at 3.55 pm. The police state that the hotel officials tried their best to resuscitate her but to no avail.  A CPR was done 20 minutes before declaring the singer dead.Preliminary investigations do not show any cause of Whitney Houston’s death. Her demise has left the world in shock, especially her fans and music lovers.  She was just 48. There were reports that state that Whitney Houston was behaving erratically  for couple of days prior to her death.

Whitney Houston was rated as 3rd in the list of MTV’s 22 Greatest Voices. Rolling Stone has cited Whitney Houston as the 34th of the 100 greatest singers ever on Planet Earth. They noted, “Her voice is a mammoth, coruscating cry: Few vocalists could get away with opening a song with 45 unaccompanied seconds of singing, but Houston’s powerhouse version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” is a tour de force.”

Whitney Houston was a pioneer for black female artistes, a trend that was followed by others.  With Michael Jackson breaking the color barrier for men, Houston did the same for black female  entertainers and singers.  After her,  emerged the popularity of black female artistes Janet Jackson and Anita Baker.

Whitney Houston  was the most awarded female artiste of all time, according to Guinness Book of World Records.  Her awards included 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, among a total of 415 career awards as of 2010. She also won the status of the highest all-time record of the most American Music Awards of any single artist and shared the record with Michael Jackson for the most AMAs ever won in a single year with eight wins in 1994. With more than 200 million albums and singles sold throughout the world, Whitney Houston was one of the world’s best selling music artistes. She was recipient of the Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Grambling State University, Louisiana. Her total kitty of awards is an astonishing and flattering 400.

Whitney Houston Greatest Hits

Whitney Houston’s greatest hit is the original sound track of The Bodyguard (1992) which went on to win many awards for her including the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Its lead single “I Will Always Love You,” became the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. With this album,  Whitney Houston became the first singer  to sell more than a million copies of an album in just a week’s time.  The album also made it to the best selling albums of all time.

Houston acted movies and sung in their movie tracks, including the films Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher’s Wife (1996). The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack became the best-selling gospel album in history. The other albums ‘My Love is your Love’ (1998),  Just Whitney (2002),  One Wish- The Holiday Album and her last I Look to You (2009) did well, though it couldn’t match the record of earlier work.

Cause of Whitney Houston’s death

Drug abuse specifically crack addiction, is cited as the most probable reason for Whitney Houston’s death. She confessed to crack cocaine addiction, marijuana and taking pills. Her once regl voice had become rapsy and she found it difficult to hit the high notes that she reveled in her prime. Her bizarre public appearances seemed like a precursor of  things to come.
